Our Breeding Philosophy |
Ravenswood Breeders of Champions |
Over our many years of breeding pure bred dogs, our philosophy has not changed. For each breed there is an AKC Standard prewritten which states what the correct dog should look like and the features it should have. We breed to achieve this standard as closely as possible. We will not breed any dog before it is two years old and has successfully passed all health checks. We will not breed any bitch more than twice. They are loving pets not breeding machines. We feel that if a dog closely meets this standard, they can perform well in any venue. Our stud dogs are carefully selected to match with the appropriate bitch we are contemplating breeding. Genetics and health issues are very carefully screened. As example, we will not breed either a dog or a bitch that has a "C" rating by Optigen for PRA. At least equally important is the temperament of both dogs. If there is any history of less than stellar temperament, we will not use that animal. We breed for AKC standards ( or other official registering organization). We understand that all pups will not meet this precise standard and know that they can fulfill a full life of happiness as a companion animal. These pups are raised in the same manner as we raise our show quality pups. Marta is at home all day with the pups. They are raised with socialization from the moment they are born into her hands. She puts them on a schedule when they are big enough to leave mother. This consists of 1- wake up - potty, 2- have breakfast - potty, 3-have play time - potty, 4 - nap time - potty, 5-lunch -potty, 6- play time - potty, 7- nap time - potty, 8- dinner - potty. 9- play time - potty and 10- Bedtime. It's a lot of work, but every puppy is worth all the effort. Just try puppy breath and you will know why. |
